"Dedicated to assisting & advancing the education of hockey players in memory of Matt Harrington."

Awarding Graduating Ice Hockey Players.

The Matt Harrington Memorial was established in 1987.

About Matt

Matt Harrington, a Class of ’87 graduate from Council Rock High School, a scholastic all-star in ice hockey, and a junior Canadian team hopeful, lost his life while swimming in Neshaminy Creek. This tragedy left our family with a hurt and a loss that time can never erase. It also left us with a hope and a plan for the future.

What We Do

As a tribute to Matt, The Matt Harrington Memorial Scholarship Fund was established. Each year, a graduating ice hockey player from both Council Rock North and South, with plans to pursue his or her education, is awarded a scholarship. The love we have for our son is now reflected in the hopeful eyes of the scholarship recipients.

Our Gratitude

We thank those who have donated their time and efforts in the past. You have made our mission possible!

About Us

In 1991 we held our first golf tournament, "THE MATT." The following year Steve Coates introduced us to Bobby Taylor, a Philadelphia Flyer Alumni . We received a tremendous amount of assistance by joining forces with  "The Chief."  With his guidance and connections, we were able to invite members of the Flyers to join our foursomes.

Throughout the years, with a lot of hard work by Coatesy and “The Chief”, members of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Flyers Alumni and the Philadelphia Phantoms joined our golfers on the course. You never knew who would show up!

Sincerely,

The Harrington Family
