Airbrushed Portrait of Matt Harrington courtsey of C. Harris Designs

"Dedicated to assisting & advancing the education

of hockey players in memory of Matt Harrington"

The death of a child is easily the hardest and least understandable situation a family must endure. The promise a young person's life holds is immeasurable, as is the grief, when those promises go unrealized. Yet most of us go on thinking "it could never happen to us". But it can.

Matt Harrington, a Class of '87 graduate from Council Rock High School, a scholastic all star in ice hockey, and a junior Canadian team hopeful, lost his life while swimming in Neshaminy Creek. The tragedy left our family with a hurt and a loss that time can never erase. It also left us with a hope and a plan for the future.

As a tribute to Matt, The Matt Harrington Memorial was established. Each year a graduating ice hockey player, with plans to pursue his or her education, is awarded a scholarship. The love we have for our son, is now reflected in the hopeful eyes of the scholarship recipients.

In 1991 we held our first golf tournament, "THE MATT". The following year we received a tremendous amount of assistance by joining forces with Bobby Taylor, a Philadelphia Flyer Alumni. With "The Chief's" guidance and connections, we have been able to invite members of the Flyers to join our foursomes. Throughout the years, with a lot of hard work by Steve Coates, members of the Philadelphia Flyers, the Flyers Alumni and the Philadelphia Phantoms have joined our golfers on the course. You never know who might show up!

We thank those who have donated their time and efforts in the past and invite you all to join us again for 18 holes of golf, hockey franternizing, a fantastic dinner and much more. We can't think of a better way to end the summer.

Sincerely,
Kathie & Vince Harrington
